ARTIST BIO
Patrick D. Hopkins is a Long Island based artist working across photography, drawing, watercolor, and painting, exploring the space between reality and narrative. His work is drawn to storytelling, memory, and the emotions attached to a particular place or moment, often returning to themes of identity and nostalgia.
Patrick earned his BFA in Photography from SUNY New Paltz, where he developed a tableau-based approach to constructing images, an interest shaped by his admiration for cinema and the way a single still can imply a before and after left for the viewer to invent. That period continues to inform his work today, even as his focus has shifted toward drawing and painting.
Across mediums, he is drawn to concept over content, treating human presence as something rarely stated outright, suggested instead through a trace, an absence, or a figure whose motives stay just out of reach.
